How to Travel With Your Wedding Dress on the Plane

How to Travel With Your Wedding Dress on the Plane

Once the dress has been altered and final touches have been made, it’s customary for the newlyweds to be responsible for transporting it to the wedding ceremony location. However, at Begum Bridal House we are familiar with transferring dresses abroad. We provide you with special garment bags and packaging and offer suggestions based on your unique dress's design. Please don’t forget to let us know that your dress will be traveling.

How to Fly with Your Dress

Firstly, just to be on the safe side, arrive to the airport a bit earlier than you normally would.

Although individual airline policies differ, you are mostly allowed to take your wedding gown on the plane to put it into the overhead bin or hang it up in the closet. Don’t forget to check your airline’s policies and possible costs before booking your flight.

"Do not check-in your dress at the luggage counter as you would want to avoid your precious dress getting ruined, or worse, getting lost!" Begum Salihoğlu warns. "Consider taking it on the plane with you in the garment bag we provide you with. Do not take your dress out of its garment bag during travel. While zipping up your garment bag, always keep another finger on the opposite side of the zipper between it and your dress to avoid any unwanted zipper snags."

Also, your best option is to travel with a carry-on that has your most important and needed goods during your trip. Get yourself a small, portable steam iron. No matter how you transport your dress, it’s bound to get a few wrinkles!

How to Pack Your Dress

Make sure you have a good garment bag!

“Many of our brides say our specially tailored garment bags were a godsend. They have a lot of room, which is excellent because most airlines consider garment bags carry-on items” says Begüm Salihoğlu.

First Class and Priority Boarding Benefits

Consider flying first class or opting for priority boarding on your special day. These options increase your chances of securing a spot in the front closet and receiving extra assistance from the flight attendants. You might even think about purchasing an additional seat for your dress. After all, it's your special day.
